Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) Employment and Training (E&T)

The SNAP E&T program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). Florida SNAP E&T program is designed to assist eligible SNAP E&T participants obtain skills through education, training, or work experience that will increase self-sufficiency and lead to employment. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), in partnership with CareerSource Escarosa, is responsible for the administration of SNAP E&T.

A SNAP E&T participant is an Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD) who is required to participate in work activities in order to maintain eligibility for food assistance.

An ABAWD:

  • Is between ages of 18 – 50
  • Is not in school at least half-time
  • Does not work at least 20 hours a week
  • Does not earn at least $217.50 a week
  • Does not have a documented medical limitation
  • Does not meet other criteria, outlined by federal regulations, that prevents them from working

The SNAP E&T program offers ABAWDs the opportunity to meet the mandatory work requirements through participation in qualifying work components available through each CareerSource Escarosa Career Center in Escambia and Santa Rosa County.

Qualifying work components available to ABAWDs include:

  • Job Search (in combination with other activities)
  • Job Search Training (in combination with other activities)
  • Work Experience
  • Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) services
  • Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) services
