Reemployment Assistance
Florida’s Reemployment Assistance (RA) program is the state’s name for Unemployment Compensation or Unemployment Insurance. Its primary purpose is to provide temporary wage replacement benefits to eligible individuals who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, helping them cover basic living expenses while they actively search for new employment.
Key Points
Temporary Financial Aid– It offers short-term income support for workers who are unemployed.
Eligibility Requirements– To qualify, an individual must:
Have lost their job involuntarily (not due to quitting without “good cause attributable to the employer” or being fired for misconduct).
Have earned a sufficient amount of wages in a prior period (the “base period”).
Be able to work, available for work, and actively seeking employment each week.
Job Search Assistance– The program is often linked with job assistance resources through local CareerSource centers and the Employ Florida website to help claimants return to work faster.
Weekly Certification– Claimants must routinely log in to the state’s system (known as CONNECT/ReConnect) to certify that they are still unemployed and report their job search efforts to receive payments.
In essence, Reemployment Assistance is a safety net designed to support Florida’s workforce during periods of unexpected unemployment.
