Maribel came to CareerSource Escarosa after facing an unexpected layoff from her position as a dental assistant. She had worked in the field for the past 30 years and began facing challenges as she prepared to re-enter the workforce.
Mrs. Garcia began attending weekly workshop sessions to sharpen her skill-set and improve her hireability. While attending an Employ Florida workshop session, she stumbled across a listing for an instructor position for the Fortis Institute’s Dental Assistant Program. Mrs. Garcia wanted to apply for the position, but felt that she wasn’t qualified because she didn’t have a teaching experience.
Workshop Advisor, Craig Shumaker, reminded Mrs. Garcia that she had 30 years of hands-on experience and encouraged her to apply regardless of her hesitation. Craig assisted her with her resume and provided her with some helpful interview techniques. After her one-on-one time with Craig, Mrs. Garcia felt confident and applied for the position. One week later, she was granted an interview and was immediately offered the position!
Mrs. Garcia is enjoying her new career and is already looking forward to teaching more classes next term.
